Oracle and Virtualization Heaven

oracle virtualizationVirtualization technology and the use of cloud computing are no longer just interesting technology ideas. They’re an essential part of any effective IT strategy. Getting the right solutions in place for the right business needs can be a challenge, but it’s one that has a measurable and immediate payoff. One of the strongest competitors in the virtualization marketplace today is Oracle, and they’re gaining a significant share of the market with their newest efforts.

Organizations of all sizes are quickly recognizing how they can put virtualization technologies to use in their world. Unfortunately, some of the existing virtualization market leaders have presented IT departments and data centers with some unique challenges.

One of the biggest challenges has been in the area of performance management. Virtualization creates some unique performance issues when you start moving applications from dedicated physical servers to a virtualized environment. Oracle solutions, in particular, have a grasp on this challenge and do a stellar job of addressing performance concerns.

Another area of concern has been in the area of deploying virtualized servers across the organization. It’s one thing to virtualize IT workloads; it’s quite another to virtualize applications owned in other parts of the organization. This is especially true when those applications have dependencies both vertically and horizontally. Oracle’s middleware management tools shine in this kind of virtualization challenge.

In fact, Oracle excels in dealing with complex application workloads. Oracle virtualization solutions don’t start by looking at the server and then going up from there. Rather, they start with the business application and center virtualization efforts around that perspective. By doing so, everything from those business applications to the development tools and the middleware that support the applications can be fully integrated. Tools such as the WebLogic Server Virtualization Option help define this tight integration.

When you add in Oracle’s effective and powerful configuration, management, automation and provisioning tools, you’re really looking at virtualization heaven. Once your Oracle virtualization solution is in place, the built-in tools function to make sure your business systems have the security, performance and uptime that the organization demands.
