5 Ways Cloud Computing Helps Midsized Companies

cloud computing midsize companiesWhen you think about cloud computing and its benefits to businesses, you normally don’t think about midsize business. You’re more likely to think of how SMB companies can benefit, and that cloud computing won’t really take off until larger companies make a move to that kind of a model.

However, there are a number of ways in which it is not SMBs or even large companies that can benefit the most from cloud, but rather it is the midsize companies who stand to gain the most.

Here are 5 reasons that cloud computing is ideal for midsize companies:

1. Midsize companies tend to have tech personnel on staff, but they tend to be rather streamlined. Especially in the current economic climate, IT personnel are already stretched. In most midsize companies, there’s not a whole lot of room for additional tasks for those support personnel. If an IT department at a midsize company does need to hire IT folks, they want to hire ones that produce and support business functions (read: applications) rather than infrastructure. Cloud computing takes care of those infrastructure needs.

2. They’re also limited in their capital resources. Midsize companies need to invest their IT dollars in areas that their businesses can see, not in basic infrastructure.

3. Midsize companies can grow much more quickly. The scalability that comes with cloud computing, and the flexibility to map the use of resources to business activities while avoiding those large costs, is especially enticing.

4. They face markets that can turn on a dime. That means you can’t be locked into capital investments, and cloud computing lets you provide the kinds of solutions you need to provide today, while paying as you go.

5. Midsize companies can’t rely on brand alone. If you’re not the market leader, you need to be able to keep pace with what’s going on around you. The market leaders and the big brands have the luxury of knowing that their customers will wait for them to do what they want to do. You need, instead, to be able to respond to demand and to have a degree of agility that larger businesses don’t need and probably couldn’t produce. Cloud computing allows midsize companies that kind of agility.
